In a translation, {{}} marks something for a secondary style, but in a form it’s used to display a value in a text field.
Therefore I have the issue where the values display fine in the English original, but in a translation the form instead only shows the variable name. There are some fields in my form that contain no text apart from the value, which work fine if I leave out the translation for those fields, but I have some values where it’s not possible to use separate text fields.

I believe a similar issue was brought up in this topic from almost two years ago, but was not able to find any options.

Hi @SPranz ,

I think I’ll need to have a lot more context to fully understand the problem you have. I have sent you a message on where you can send the recording to fully describe the issue you are experiencing. Thank you

I will just post images here instead of sending a recording in case someone else might have the same question.

I made an example form to illustrate my problem.

![New users can only embed one image, so I uploaded the other images to another site](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex030/uploads/feathery/original/1X/0aa0e82c44354a26923639d652f58fb605e98c1e.png)
This is the designer view of the form. There is a single text field, with the name of the dropdown field in double curly brackets and two different text styles.

When accessing the form in its original language, it looks as expected and displays the value of the dropdown field where I placed the brackets.

([image-2 hosted at ImgBB — ImgBB](https://ibb.co/5WxhC53m))
This is the .txt file for the translation, I kept all the brackets as they were in the original.

This results in the German version of the page looking like this. Instead of displaying the option chosen in the dropdown field, it displays the variable name in the style that I had set for the last line and the last line has the same style as the rest of the field, as is described in the .txt file.

If I change the brackets to single curly brackets, as seems to be implied by the {time} and {length} values in the lines that are included by default in the translation file, nothing happens and the form only displays what I entered.

The signifier {{}} has two different functions depending on whether you are viewing the original or the translation, which seems unintuitive.
My main question is whether it is possible to display variables in a translation. It is possible I missed something, but I was not able to find anything about the topic in the documentation.

I apologize for skirting the link rules and hope this is sufficient to explain my issue.

Hi, I think some image linkss are cut out. Can you edit them?

Unfortunately not. Due to me being a new user, I was unable to post the reply if I included more than one embedded image and two links, so I had to obfuscate them. Adding :// after the https and replacing the [dot] with an actual dot should turn them into valid links. In hindsight I should have just made a second reply.

This is the missing image from the paragraph that describes the resulting German version of the page:

These are the images for the paragraph about the single curly brackets.
