Slow Performance and Lagging

Hi there,

We have 13 forms called “[Name] Group Activities Recording,” each for different locations but with a similar layout. The forms can be quite slow, especially on the second page where there are more elements and some advanced logic.

Issues we’ve noticed:

  • Editing the form: clicking into the second step is glitchy and slow. As is trying to add/amend anything here.

  • Filling in the form: tick boxes lag and take time to update.

  • Submitting: the “Submit Care Notes” button sometimes doesn’t work the first time.

  • On Safari (iPhone), a loading circle appears when submitting, but on Chrome (tablet) it doesn’t, which makes it unclear if the form is processing.

One example worth reviewing is the Harpwood Group Activities Recording form, as this one contains the most elements.

Is there anything we can do to improve performance? The current lag makes the forms difficult to use.

Thanks,
Katy

Sorry one more issue I forgot to mention with the same “[Name] Group Activities Recording” forms: on the first step there’s a File Upload field. The submit button is disabled until a file is uploaded, so every form entry should include files. However, in the form results there are entries with nothing in the File Upload element.

For example, I tested the Rodwell Group Activities Recording form (user ID: 1460387a-f2d4-4642-a1c7-63237709419e). I uploaded 4–5 images and a video, but nothing is showing in the ActivityFileUpload field.

Hi @KatyCooper ,

We should have an update regarding the File Upload Field issue within this week.

Regarding the slowness of the form, I suggest consolidating all 13 [Name] forms into a single form, especially since there are minimal differences between them. I ran a test on the Rodwell Group Activities Recording form, and the delay on the checkboxes was around ~1 second. I understand this should be nearly instantaneous, but we can guide your team on optimizing it.

Please share your availability (working hours) via our support email so we can set up a meeting to review the causes and provide guidance.

Hi Kenny

Thanks for the update. It would be great if we could set up a meeting.

Our working hours are 9am-5pm (UK time) Monday – Friday. We are around Thursday or Friday this week if that works for you?

Many thanks

Katy

Hi Katy,

I will be sending a sample on how to consolidate identical forms into a single form so that others would be able to use it as a reference in the future.

Hi Katy

Here’s a simple example video on how you can consolidate multiple forms into one. In this example, We change the name of the form via dropdown field but there is actually a lot of other options that you use. Literally any field or hidden field can be used to do this.

This documentation can be a great resource on finding out other ways to set field values.

Hi @KatyCooper ,

We’ve just released an improvement update to our file upload field. This update should also addresses the issue you experienced with it. Please let us know if you still encounter any problems on your end.

Hi Kenny

Thanks for your responses.

I have watched the video and can consolidate them into one form. Would consolidating them improve the performance? Is there other ways we could optimise the forms performance as well?

With the file upload field I have been monitoring it the last few days but there still seems to be instances where there is nothing showing in the file upload element. For example: user ID 9d104eab-f264-4505-b3ee-38c1650cda93 in the Woodchurch Group Activities Recording form. There are other examples as well which I can give you if needed.

Hi Katy,

Yes! That should improve the overall performance of the form. You can then turn off the forms that is no longer needed to feel the effect.

With the file upload field issue, we are in the middle of creating another patch that should fully resolve the issue. This should become available within the following week.
